Syrian rebel fighters from the recently formed National Liberation Front pictured in Idlib province on 11 September. United Nations secretary general António Guterres has appealed to Russia, Iran and Turkey to “spare no effort to find solutions that protect civilians” in Idlib and said it was “absolutely essential” to avoid a full-scale battle in Syria’s rebel-held province.
